Die 2011 Ig Nobel seremonie het gister by Harvard se Sanders-teater plaasgevind. Die toekenning word geborg deur Improbable Research, 'n organisasie wat versamel fassinerende, vreemd, en blatante skreeusnaakse navorsing vraestelle wat triomfeer die idee dat nie alle wetenskap is vervelig. Onder vanjaar se vooraanstaande ontvangers was mede-entomoloog en blogger David Rentz, wat die IgNobel in Biologie ontvang het vir a ontdekking gemaak in 1983 saam met kollega Darryl Gwynne in die Australiese buiteland. Tot hul verbasing 'n sekere styl van bruin bottel met inkepings aan die basis (“stompies”) was onweerstaanbaar vir mannetjies van die Buprestid-kewer Julodimorpha bakewelli Julodimorpha saundersii (sien bron papier en lewer kommentaar hieronder).

It should be noted that the species discussed in the Gwynne & Rentz paper is actually Julodimorpha saundersii, which at the time of their publication was considered a synonym of J. bakewellii. The former occurs throughout SW and Western Australia, while the latter is limited to eastern Australia. Refer to Bellamy & Wier (2008).
